Legacy gifts to MECT are an enduring way to support the causes that matter most to you, both
during and beyond your lifetime. In addition to supporting MECT’s mission, legacy gifts may
provide income or tax benefits for both you and your heirs. Below are some more common
Legacy Giving options.
Include MECT as a Beneficiary in Your Will
You can designate MECT as a beneficiary in your will. You can give gifts of cash, securities,
land, real estate, and collectibles, to name a few. If you’re considering a donation of land that
you wish to have protected, we kindly ask that you contact us ahead of time to discuss the
feasibility. If you are considering donations outside of cash and securities, please contact us to
discuss logistics and your designation intent.
Add MECT as a Beneficiary in your IRA, 401k, Life Insurance Policy or
Donor Advised Fund
You can designate MECT as a beneficiary in one or more of these financial vehicles.
Beneficiary designations are typically straightforward modifications on your brokerage or
insurance company’s website or through a paper form. Donation amounts or percentages can
be designated for each of your beneficiaries.
Financial Vehicles such as a Charitable Gift Annuity, Charitable Remainder
Trust, or Charitable Lead Trust
These vehicles can provide income and/or tax benefits for you and your heirs. It is best to
discuss these options with your professional advisor to determine if they will meet the financial
and giving goals for you and your family.
Retained Life Estate
A Retained Life Estate allows you to transfer the deed of a primary or secondary home to a
charity, yet maintain full use of the residence for your lifetime. You will receive immediate tax
benefits for the donation. You are responsible for property taxes, insurance, and maintenance
during your lifetime.
Bequest Designation Letters
With any of the above legacy gifts, you can specify to MECT how you would like their gift to be
used. Creating these letters informs us about your Legacy Gifts. It allows us to discuss your
wishes with you to make sure your intended designations fit within the scope, abilities, and
mission of the organization. Bequest Designation Letters will be kept on file in our constituent
database. The organization will do its utmost to honor the wishes specified in the designation
letter. Designation Letters are an easy way to communicate your wishes, and the designations
can be changed by you at any time.
